The Magic of Television

CDT students have been involved in the making of a television programme telling the story of human progress through the development of ever more advanced materials. Students designed, built and tested a model of the Tay Bridge to illustrate the different properties of cast iron and steel. The programme is presented by Dr Mark Miodownik and will be aired on BBC4 early in 2012.

Inter-CDT collaboration

Second year students joined their peers from the Theory and Simulations of Materials CDT at Imperial College and the Medical Devices CDT at Strathclyde for an intensive 3-day course covering collaboration and self-awareness, held in the peaceful surroundings of Cressbrook Hall in Derbyshire. During the course, students worked with Dan Johns from the Bloodhound SSC to produce promotional videos for the 1000mph car project.
