They also went to IJmuiden...
Visitors
Staff and students from the Western Australia School of Mines visited the CDT as part of their 2011 European tour.

The Magic of Television
CDT students have been involved in the making of a television programme telling the story of human progress through the development of ever more advanced materials. Students designed, built and tested a model of the Tay Bridge to illustrate the different properties of cast iron and steel. The programme is presented by Dr Mark Miodownik and will be aired on BBC4 early in 2012.

Inter-CDT collaboration
Second year students joined their peers from the Theory and Simulations of Materials CDT at Imperial College and the Medical Devices CDT at Strathclyde for an intensive 3-day course covering collaboration and self-awareness, held in the peaceful surroundings of Cressbrook Hall in Derbyshire. During the course, students worked with Dan Johns from the Bloodhound SSC to produce promotional videos for the 1000mph car project.

The first National Student Conference in Metallic Materials, organised by the Advanced Metallic Systems CDT, took place in Sheffield on Monday 20th June 2011. It provided the more than 80 students with an opportunity to show their work in presentations and posters and establish links with other students, academics and industrialists throughout the UK.
There were prizes for the best presentations (won by Luke Carter, Gary Bywater and Ritwik Ritwik) and posters (won by Faye Thompson and Alexandra Pantelli).
2010 Advanced Metallic Systems CDT Showcase
15th September at The Ridge, Sheffield
The Advanced Metallics CDT held its first Showcase Event in Sheffield on 15th September. We aim to highlight the exciting CDT approach to research and skills training to industry, provide opportunities to meet CDT staff and students and describe how organisations can get involved with and benefit from CDT activities.
