University receives funding boost to train tomorrow’s engineers. University of Sheffield to receive a share of £446m of funding to recruit PhD students in engineering and physical sciences. The funding will be a boost for the University's seven EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs) which offer four-year training programmes designed to develop students’ professional skills and technical research experience. We are one of the centres.
10th cohort has arrived . A big welcome to our 10th cohort - our biggest cohort yet with 22 students. Currently at Cressbrook Hall and, as usual, having lots of fun. Lots of chatting going on - some of it even about metallurgy.

FAST-forge in the news. The CDT FAST-forge project, a novel way of producing near-net-shape titanium components from as few as two processing steps, has been in the news this week following an announcement by the defence secretary Gavin Williamson.
